Tweeting = Learning

Captivate 5 has a cool new feature. It integrates Twitter into their files. So, a user can feel more connected to the learning experience with their tweeting peers. Did you ever think that you’d follow a course on Twitter?

The twitter widget allows a user to post questions or comments to the twittersphere while taking a Captivate course. So, how does it work? When you launch a course, you enter your twitter username and password. While taking the course, if you have a question you can tweet your question to others who are following that same course on Twitter. Once your question or comment is posted, followers can then see it. Once you get a response, an alert will appear in your course Captivate window. You can also view the entire chain of messages and comments after logging into a course.

Cool, huh? See more here.

Happy Learning!

Global e-Learning Market Growth Projections

Ambient Insight just recently released their report “The Worldwide Market for Self-paced eLearning Products and Services: 2009-2014 Forecast and Analysis.”  Some highlights from the report include:

  • The market for self-paced e-learning reached $29.1 billion in 2009.  It is poised to grow at 12.8% and reach $46.9 billion by 2014
  • North America will continue to be the largest market through this time frame
  • In 2009, Western Europe was the 2nd largest market for e-learning in the world.  Asia will surpass Western Europe for 2nd place by 2014
  • Latin American growth is 19.8%.  The majority of e-learning products in this region come from Spanish and Portuguese suppliers – there is not much internal development.
  • Demand in the Middle East and Africa is low but represent a good long term growth strategy for global e-learning companies

One aspect of e-learning the report does not touch that would interest me is to categorize or evaluate the types of learning that will continue to grow in various regions.  Will the Middle East and Africa slowly begin to adopt e-learning, but also catch up technologically at the same time?  Will they make a jump from traditional classroom style directly to incorporating aspects of social learning?  Or will it be a gradual progression, following the industry norms with a decade delay?

It will be interesting to watch these growing economies emerge in the e-learning industry.  Since bandwidth is really the only limitation to the quality of e-learning that can be supplied globally, we can only assume that the struggle will be more culturally-based.
